How Time Flies So Do Cakes

Well yesterday we saw another birthday for my baby girl "Clicky". Boy has time flown. She was 15! She has grown into a beautiful young woman. I really thought I had the day all worked out. For starters go for my weekly pamper and natter with the girls at my fav hairdressers in Burleigh. Thanks to Renee Megan & Casey for making me beautiful each and every week. Then I was to pick up some last minute things from Woollies for that nights family dinner. Then come home and construct Clicky's birthday cake which I had cooked earlier. Sounds simple doesn't.....No nothing went to plan at all. Got to the hairdressers and it was pouring...no umbrella.Oh Doh! Got to Woollies ..... didn't have my list of grocerys to get and mind completely blank. When you get to my age that seems to happen regularly. HeHe. Then home to construct the cake. Now I have watched soooo many YouTube videos to know how to place fondant on a cake. I had all the right equipment. I had also attended classes to show me how to cover a cake with fondant. So what happened yesterday, well for starters the biceps got really tired and sore with rolling out this medium. I got so red in the face that "Husband of Tootti" started to get concerned and came took over till we got the require measurement of fondant rolled out. Phew! Got that over! Now to put fondant on cake which had been crumb coated with chocolate ganache. MMMMmm chocolate ganache. Now I have crumb coated many a cake with chocolate ganache and not had any trouble with it till yesterday. Cake had been in fridge so ganache would harden while I did my exercises with rolling out the fondant. Ganache hardened I proceed to place fondant on cake. NO, what has happened, ganache has moved Fondant slipping, tearing, ganache going everywhere so is fondant. What a MESS! "Husband Of Tootti" has come to rescue again giving encouragement saying it will work out ok. It is beautiful. I have a cake with only 1/2 the fondant on it big holes of fondant everywhere. Nearly in tears and ready to give up I remembered I had earlier in the week made some fondant clouds. See the cake was a supposed to be "Care Bear" cake, with 3 Care Bears on blue fondant and clouds and a rainbow. These clouds came to the rescue. I didn't realise that clouds really do have a silver lining. Where there was a hole in the fondant a cloud went. Things started to look up.
I also had this brilliant idea of putting fairy floss (cotton candy) around the bottom of the cake. So on it went. It was looking great. Problem solved. Na not on you life. What happened next was the fairy floss melted with the humidity. Oh NO! A quick call to my mum to see if she can pick up some more on her way to our house before dinner. Well done Nan. She came to the rescue not just 1 tub but 2. My mum can never purchase anything in ones. Well you think that's the end of the story. No.... Dinner was absolutely fabulous. I bought the cake out with candles on it "Clicky" absolutely loved it and so did every one else. Cake cut and handed out. Everyone said it was the best cake I had made and gave it a 9 out of 10. You see no one gives me a 10 cause then they know I wont make it again. Then we hear a tinkle tinkle. Everyone asks what was that noise.....then we hear BLOP! Everyone looks around to see that the cake has disappeared. With a scurry we get to the bench top and see the cake has fallen onto the floor into an almighty mess.
Moral to the story... Every cloud does have a silver lining and there is a solution to every problem, plus if the cake was still here I would put on an extra couple of kilos eating it.
Enjoy the day. Live every moment. Forgive those how have hurt you and more importantly repent for all your wrongs.
